The Best Test Management Tools of 2023

At Qase we’ve helped thousands of customers transition to our platform from competitors, and hundreds have come to us with their own comparison charts that they’ve made up to make sure we’re the best solution for their team. We realized it would be helpful to share this information publicly, since it can be difficult to find honest, worthwhile comparisons that aren’t paid (all third-party “best of” lists are pay-to-play).

We wanted to create a resource that uses only feedback from real users, and wasn’t written by marketing. We’ve carefully compiled this list from the feedback of our own customers and customers on G2, taking from customer reviews, making it as honest and helpful as we could. Qase

A feature-rich TestOps tool that has high rankings on G2 for good UI/UX, ease-of-use and likelihood to recommend. An all-in-one solution, that includes test case management, defect management, test plans, test runs with informative reports, webhooks, rich API and integrations.

Pros:

  • Intuitive easy-to-use UI/UX for creating and working with defects, test cases, test runs and test plans
  • Extensive API and integrations
  • Great customer support & customer-led development (voting for features)
  • Affordable + a free plan
  • Sharable, customizable reports
  • Stability and performance (especially compared to TestRail)
  • Support for Gherkin syntax

Cons:

  • Cloud only
  • Lacks AI/ML features

TestRail

TestRail has large adoption due to being one of the original players on the block - but users report it’s slow in every way - from running tests to keeping up with competitors.

  • The standard, so there are benefits to using the tool with the highest adoption in learning and troubleshooting resources
  • On-premise version with support for Docker containers
  • Shareable test reports
  • Integration with automation frameworks

  • Slow & unstable
  • Outdated UI/UX that isn’t intuitive (learning curve)
  • Expensive
  • Slow support

Katalon is an all-in-one quality management platform that enables quality assurance, powering the authoring, execution, and insights of test automation across any app or environment, and flexibly integrates across a team’s architecture and processes.

G2 Rating: 4.3

Pros:

  • Desktop Apps
  • API automation
  • Friendly UI/UX, no-code


Cons:

  • Lacking in some key integrations (YouTrack, Trello, Redmine, GitHub)
  • Slow and crashes frequently
  • Fragmented products with large price increase for entire suite
  • No live support or live training

A test management tool that lives inside and seamlessly integrates with Jira.

Pros:

  • BDD – Write Cucumber scenarios in Jira
  • Integrates with test automation frameworks (Selenium, JUnit, Nunit, Robot, …)
  • Built-in REST API
  • CI integrations (Bamboo, Jenkins)

  • Only for Jira
  • Learning curve

PractiTest is an end-to-end test management tool. It enables full visibility into the testing process and a deeper understanding of testing results.

Pros:

  • Generate tests from requirements, and bugs from tests
  • Executive dashboards that display a top-down view of your projects, with visualization, and business analytics at your fingertips
  • On-premise version
  • Integrates with 60 apps

  • Limited support for manual testing
  • Configuring dashboards is challenging
  • No public road map

Pros:

  • Visual regression testing support
  • Good customer support

Cons:

  • Confusing UI and often requires very roundabout solutions
  • It's hard to configure very complex tests
  • Limited to web apps testing only

Pros:

  • Rich test cases, exploratory test sessions & test automation

  • Some users report higher than average bugs
